Under the full support of NSPA the Diversity Committee has been committed to implement and facilitate diversity training throughout the NSPA organizational structure. In order to reach this goal we have implemented the following steps:
Ensure graduate and undergraduate students are involved in the membership and leadership of the Diversity Committee. Promote the profession of Psychology among minority students. Work closely with other organizations that provide psychological services to minorities. Plan and promote training and continuing education about multicultural issues at State, County, and City organizations. We are also fully committed to undergraduate and graduate schools of Psychology at public and private Colleges and Universities. Some of our immediate goals are to promote conferences addressing current and relevant research about racial/ethnic minority's issues related to psychology. This will promote awareness of clinical issues when clinical work is performed with minorities. Posted 5/11/08 |
The Diversity Committee of the Nevada Psychological Association is committed to a fair representation of all professionals in the field of psychology. The diversity in the United States is a national asset. In today's multicultural reality, distinct cultures and their relationship to the broader society are not just important for mental health and the mental health system, but for the broader health care system as well. The Diversity Committee envision a State of Nevada where all persons, regardless of their culture, race, or ethnicity, enjoy the benefits of effective mental health preventive and treatment services. To achieve this goal, today's psychologists are faced with the reality that prevention and treatment services are relevant, attractive, and effective for minority populations. It's the intention of this Committee to promote cultural competence among psychologists so we can be aware of the patient's culture and background, making psychologists more sensitive to the patient's needs. The goal here would be for the psychologist to develop a set of skills and knowledge to deliver effective treatment. The Diversity Committee welcomes your valuable input and active participation making psychologists a group of professionals that welcome the challenges of diversity in the 21st. Century.
