Lindsey Bocchieri Ricciardi, PhD
Dr. Ricciardi is the Director of Behavioral Health Services at Creative Health Solutions in Las Vegas, NV. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the Eating and Weight Disorders Program at University of Chicago Hospitals. She obtained her PhD in Clinical Psychology at UNLV in 2005. Dr. Ricciardi is responsible for the design and implementation of a multidisciplinary weight management program (MindBody Weight Managment). She also provides general psychotherapy services and has ongoing research in the areas of group therapy for obese binge-eaters and the psychosocial impact of gastric bypass surgery.

Marta Meana, PhD
Dr. Meana is an Associate Professor of Psychology at The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Professor Meana came to UNLV after completing a post-doctoral fellowship in Women's Health at the University of Toronto. She obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from McGill University in Montreal in 1996. Professor Meana's research interests lie primarily in the area of sexuality, with an emphasis on women's sexual health and the sexual pain disorders. She is currently working on a number of studies investigating the determinants of female sexual desire and behavior. Of secondary interest are issues related to dramatic weight loss and gastric bypass surgery. (from the UNLV Psychology Website)

CE Approval:
Nevada State Psychological Association (NSPA) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. NSPA maintains responsibility for this program and its content. NSPA will issue certificates of completion. APA CE rules require that we only issue credits to those who attend the entire workshop. Those arriving more than 15 minutes late or leaving before the entire workshop is completed will not receive CE credits.

Welcome to NSPA's 2007-2008 term!

We have an amazing team of officers in the Southern region this year. They are as follows:

Board meetings are held by conference call. If you would like to participate please call Nancy McNaul at 702-612-0740 to be included in the list of participants.

We plan to kick off our term with the annual Fall Social. This event will be held on Friday, September 14, 2007 from 6 to 9 p.m. From 6 to 7 p.m. we will be offering one free CEU. The presenters Marta Meana, Ph.D. and Lindsey Ricciaridi, Ph.D., will talk about their research on the psychosocial impact of weight-loss surgery and their new book: Obesity Surgery: Stories of Altered Lives. From 7 to 9 p.m. we will be serving wine and hors d'oeuveres. Please check the home page of the website for information.

The southern region also has plans to host additional events that will allow members the chance to meet and get to know one another. Upcoming ideas include a charity drive over the winter holidays, a family friendly event at a local park in the spring, and a summer social at a local restaurant.

We will keep our members posted via website, newsletters, and the listserv as we progress. As always, input from our members is welcome and appreciated. Members have opportunities to volunteer for a variety of programs, and your involvement is vital to the success of our organization.
